Craniosacral Therapy

With craniosacral therapy we work to unwind physical and emotional trauma as well as to reduce stress and promote wellbeing.

One of the factors that set’s Amber apart from other therapists is that she has training in the three main lineages of CST, Upledger, Visionary and Biodynamic, whereas 99% of therapists are trained in one.

What is craniosacral therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a highly specialised field of alternative medicine, born from osteopathy, that supports health. It’s name stems from the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord – the Central Nervous System. CST supports healing of emotional as well as physical pain, trauma, anxiety and the stresses of life.

This gentle hands-on technique addresses structural & systematic imbalances by facilitating the release of physical, emotional, or psychological stress and/or trauma restrictions using myofascial release & light touch on the head, neck & sacrum. CST supports the self-regulation & self-healing attributes of the nervous system. As the nervous system releases residual stress responses, it finds coherence again & self-healing naturally arises. It's possible in the process that fragmented emotions, memories or sensations may arise for integration. When this occurs, Amber facilitates somatic awareness practices to support the nervous system to re-balance on a holistic level.

How it works

CST supports regulation of the nervous system and supports the body to process and unwind conditions resulting from stress and trauma. It enhances the body’s natural healing processes to let go of the negative impact of life’s pressures – mentally, physically and emotionally, and thus creates the conditions to transition from compensation and fragmentation, to coherence and wholeness

Our bodies retain the stories of our lives, holding tension and imprints of memories. When a life event feels overwhelming and is more than a person can tolerate at the time, our fascia and muscles contract in order to protect us. However, after the event has passed and when unexpressed emotions are repressed, the holding starts to affect our health, causing pain and anxiety, poor posture, digestive problems, autoimmune conditions, headaches and sleep disturbances.

Benefits

Relieving tension and strain from the tissues around the craniosacral system fosters a feeling of calm and improves wellbeing, including digestive, respiratory, circulatory and skeletal systems. It is an effective treatment for helping people with a wide range of health challenges associated with pain and dysfunction.

Additionally, this somatic based therapy is a wonderful compliment to tradional talk therapy. The restorative state that CST induces allows us to shift from tension and holding patterns that make us stuck in mind and body, and helps our inner being to process what it is ready to, whether that is a physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, and often, all of the above.
